The hike began with a steep climb up a rocky cliff. Finally we reached the top.
We've had lovely weather the first few days but the forecast for today called for rain. It was misting when we left our hotel but it stopped once we started hiking, at least for a time.
We started from the beach at Zavial which was pretty deserted because of the dark skies.
And looked back at the beach.
Soon we were headed for another point and cliff.
We walked along a rocky landscape for a while.
Then we began another climb.
On to more breathtaking views.
We followed narrow paths through the vegetation.
We passed islands.
And marveled at an enormous rock that seemed to be perched precariously.
Always in view of the ocean.
This stretch of the hike took us through a part of the Algarve that is almost untouched
A couple of miles from Sagres, our destination for the day, it began to drizzle and then became a steady rain. We could see Sagres in the distance but we still had another rocky point to cross.
Climbing up.
And then a steep descent.
It started to rain harder as we walked across the wide beach of Sagres and towards our hotel. We were happy to reach the dry hotel although we really enjoyed the hike.
We have a fantastic view from our room.
